Very Rare Children's Mickey Mouse Belt Buckle. This buckle never made it to marketing or sales. It was a production by Hickok Belt Company from Rochester, New York. During that time, Hickok sold out to The Tandy Company of USA and this project was never completed. When the Hickok building was sold years later, these buckles were uncovered when the building was cleared of all scrap metals accumulated over the previous fifty years. I obtained some of these buckles from Joseph Gallea, owner of the Pittsford Auction Company in 1976. According to a handwritten document from Mr. Gallea, Ray Hickok personally identified these buckles to him. In order to further authenticate these buckles, I personally visited Walt Disney Productions on March 23, 1977 and was granted an interview with the director of marketing. When I showed him the buckle and shared with him the "story" I had been told, he went into the vault and came out with a small black belt with the exact buckle on it. He proceeded to tell me that it had been the plan to sell the belt and buckle for $5.00, but it never got to final production. It does carry the WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS copyright stamping on the back. I asked him what it would be worth, and he said that although it would "definitely be considered a collector's item" that he was "unable to say anything that would influence or establish value. It is worth whatever a person is willing to pay." If anyone has one of these or has seen this EXACT buckle in any collectors' publication, I would appreciate that information.
