I received it for a Christmas gift back in 1979. It is over 29 years old. It works Perfectly. It uses 4 "D" Batteries and 1 - 9 - Volt Battery (Batteries are not included.). The battery compartment and battery terminals for both the "D" Batteries and the 9 - Volt Battery do not have any corrosion in or on it. Both battery compartment doors open and close smoothly. Nothing is broken on this Gently Used Milton Bradley Vintage Big Trak. I have had this Big Trak over 29 years and have only played with it a dozen or so times. I have never been rough with it. It has not seen rain, or snow, or sleet, or hail. I've had it stored in my old army trunk in my closet for almost 3 decades. The ON/OFF Sliding Power Switch works fine as does the touch programmable key pad. It goes forwards, backwards, turns left, turns right, pauses, and stops just fine. It fires its Blue Photon Cannon as it suppose to and makes all the right and correct sounds on the built - in speaker. All of the decals on this Gently Used Milton Bradley Vintage Big Trak are intact and are not faded or peeling. There is no body damage on the corners or any where else on this Big Trak. This Gently Used Milton Bradley Vintage Big Trak does not have any broken axels, or missing screws, or any super glued parts or pieces. I have never opened up or taken this Big Trak apart. Every single touch key pad command works on this Gently Used Milton Bradley Vintage Big Trak. The expansion port cover is intact and not broken. I never did get the Big Trak Transport Cargo Carrier as a gift when I was younger even though I wanted it. I do not want this Gently Used Milton Bradley Vintage Big Trak anymore. I've had it over 29 years and have enjoyed playing with it now and then. It is time for someone else to enjoy it or maybe to collect it. It would make the perfect gift for the collector or fanatic of vintage electronic toys. I have ordered 11 extra Incandescent Miniature Light Bulbs, 2.25 Volt, .025 Amp for this Big Traks' Blue Photon Cannon from McMaster-Carr in Robbinsville, NJ and Mouser Electronics from Mansfield,TX. There is also a website that you can go to that has tons of information about Big Trak and its at www.RobotRoom.com. BIG TRAK / bigtrak was the programmable electric vehicle created by Milton Bradley in 1979. It was a six-wheeled tank with a front-mounted blue "photon beam" headlamp, and a keypad on top. The toy could remember up to 16 commands which it then executed in sequence (such as "go forward 5 lengths", "pause", "turn 30 degrees right", "fire phaser" and so on. There was a "repeat" instruction allowing simple loops, but the language was not Turing complete. There is now a small but dedicated Internet community who have reverse engineered the BIG TRAK and the Texas Instruments TMS1000 microcontroller inside it. The US and GB/European versions were noticeably different. The US version was moulded in gray plastic and labelled BIG TRAK whereas the GB version was white and labelled bigtrak with a different keypad. Bigtrak also included an optional trailer accessory. Once hooked to Bigtrak, this trailer could be programmed to dump its payload. In the Soviet Union, a clone was made under Elektronika IM-11 Lunokhod designation.
