Zorro 10/10/1957 - 9/28/1959 ABC Black and White Oct. 1957 - Sept. 1959 Thurs. 8:00-8:30 Produced by Walt Disney Productions Zorro Cast Guy Williams as Don Diego de la Vega (real name: Armando Catalando) Henry Calvin as Sgt. Garcia Gene Sheldon as Bernardo George J. Lewis as Don Alejandro de la Vega Britt Lomond as Capt. Monastario Jolene Brand as Anna Maria Verdugo Horses: Tornado and Phantom Zorro Theme Song "Zorro" by music by George Bruns and lyrics by Norman Foster Orignally recorded by Henry Clavin (really!) but later a hit for the Chordettes. Out of the night, when the full moon is bright, comes the horseman known as Zorro. This bold renegade carves a "Z" with his blade. A "Z" that stands for Zorro. Zorro, the fox so cunning and free. Zorro, who makes the sign of the "Z." Zorro...Zorro...Zorro... Zorro Tidbits My sword is a flame To right every wrong So heed well my name When young Don Diego (Guy Williams) returned home to California from Spain, he found his people being terrorized by the Commandant of the Fortress de Los Angeles (Britt Lomond). To right the wrongs, Don Diego pretended to be a lazy playboy while secretly he donned a mask and a cape and became - Zorro! Guy Williams was a superb swordsman and rumor has it that this skill was a deciding factor in his getting the role. The frequent swordplay in the series was a big draw to younger viewers. In the second series Zorro got a girlfriend, Anna Maria Verdugo (Jolene Brand). One of the best loved characters was Henry Calvin's Sgt. Garcia who was the less than competent assistant to the Commandant. Passings Henry Calvin died in 1975 of cancer, Gene Sheldon in 1982, Guy Williams died in 1989 of a brain aneurysm and George Lewis in 1995 of a stroke.
